In business, success often hinges on two things: the ability to communicate your ideas persuasively and the strength of your network. It’s no secret that the best opportunities come from relationships that aren’t limited to your immediate circle—knowing the right person at the right moment can change everything. Yet most of us spend our time networking within familiar contexts and only talking about our ideas with people who are primed to understand and agree with them.
This is a major problem because the best opportunities often come from weak ties – the people you don’t know well, but who introduce you to unexpected ideas, opportunities, and connections – and adapting to their new perspectives. Research consistently shows that these bridges between different communities are key drivers of innovation and career advancement. This highlights the need for a space where people can focus on building weak ties and connecting with those well outside their usual bounds.
To fill this need, I’m starting a club that offers opportunities to grow both professionally and personally by connecting people from diverse backgrounds. Think of it as a mix between a networking event and a workshop—an engaging environment where you can refine your pitch, get constructive feedback, and showcase your strengths.
In practice, this will look like a series of short, informal presentations—imagine elevator pitch meets panel discussion—where anyone can present a topic or idea they’re passionate about. After each presentation, a Q&A session will help sharpen your ability to respond effectively, a skill that’s crucial in any professional setting. But this isn’t just about taking the stage—it’s about the connections you’ll make. The audience will include people from a variety of fields, offering fresh perspectives and insights. Add a potluck to keep things casual, and we’ll create a space that fosters both professional growth and genuine relationships.
This isn’t about traditional networking, where you collect business cards but never follow up. It’s about building meaningful relationships—learning how to present yourself authentically, engage with others, and become the kind of person people want to collaborate with. And yes, it’s also a resume builder. Leadership experience, public speaking, community service—it all adds up.
Whether you want to practice pitching a startup idea, share insights from your field, or just meet people outside your usual circles, this is your space. Our first meeting is planned for January 23, and I’m looking for people to present or help spread the word. If you’re interested—or even just curious—email me, and let’s make it happen.
